Commander League F.A.Q.

Q: How long are standard rounds?

A: 7 Weeks, 1 match per week.


Q: How long are the Playoff’s

A: Assuming we cut to top 8, 3 weeks. Top 16 and Top 32 will be slightly longer.


Q: What is Infect damaged needed to win?

A: 10.


Q: What cards are banned?

A: We follow general Commander Banned/Restricted list.


Q: Is Sol Ring legal?

A: Yes.


Q: My precon comes with a now banned card. Can I play that card?

A: No. If a card in an older precon is now banned, you simply replace that card week 1 with a basic land. No further upgrades can take place week 1.


Q: Do Companion’s count towards my 100 card pool?

A: No. We follow Commander Rules for Companion. This can be your 101st card since it is not technically part of your deck.


Q: When can I upgrade my deck?

A: Week 1 must be played as the standard precon out of box, no changes. You can use any of the legendary creatures contained in the deck. You can upgrade your deck for your Round 2/Week 2 match.


Q: Can I use a different Commander after I start upgrading my deck?

A: No. Only commanders contained within the precon can be used.


Q: Can I cut a color altogether from my deck if I have a legendary creature that is 1 or 2 colors?

A: Yes.


Q: How much can I spend on weekly upgrades?

A: Upgrades are capped at $20.00 per week. This cap is based off of TCG Player Market Price, Near Mint, and the lowest costed printing available. GOLD BORDERED CARDS CANNOT BE USED FOR UPGRADE PRICING.


Q: Do I have to report my upgrades?

A: Yes. Each week, prior to Thursday evening at 10pm EST you can upload a snapshot or file to your MTGMelee profile under our tournament. Upgrades are use it or lose it. You cannot bank upgrades. Don’t forget to upgrade weekly!


Q: Can I use Foreign cards?

A: Yes. You need to be able to show the english version of the card so both players can understand the cards effects. Our Scryfall bot channel in Discord can be used to look up cards and rulings.


Q: Can I swap foreign cards from my foreign precon to english cards from my collection?

A: Yes.


Q: How do we report matches?

A: Matches are reported under MTGMelee.com and the current tournament you are participating in.


Q: Can I concede to my opponent if my schedule does not permit me to play?

A: Yes. We suggest trying to get your games in Fri, Sat, or Sun the week the schedules release. Most players have time over the weekend to schedule a game.


Q: I have trouble making it to the store for games. Can I play my matches over Spelltable?

A: Yes. Both players must agree to play over spell table.


Q: What do I do if I suspect someone is cheating?

A: Do not accuse anyone of cheating. If you suspect someone is cheating, simply start a screen recording of your match. When finished, contact a member of the Rules Committee and send them a private message with the file, or a link to the file for review.


Q: My opponent is not responding to my discord messages. What do I do?

A: Take snapshots of your attempt to contact them multiple times with no response and Discord message a member of the Rules Committee the conversation photo’s. Non-responsive players will be issued a forfeit.


Q: I play BYE this week but I do not see them in the Discord chat. How do I get ahold of them?

A: BYE is an automatic win for you. That means we had an open spot or someone dropped from the tournament.


Q: Do I have to play at our local game store (LGS) or Spelltable?

A: No. It is up to each player to determine what is best for them and their schedule. If both players mutually agree to play at an LGS or over Spelltable that is up to the players.


Q: Can I swap out my basic lands for foil versions of that land from my collection?

A: Yes. Only Magic the gathering lands can be used. No proxy lands, or custom altered lands are allowed as they may have a different thickness and be easily recognizable when cutting.


Q: Can I play cards that say “a deck may contain any number of this card?”

A: Yes. Remember, 7 week standard season. Choose your upgrades wisely


Q: When are pairings posted?

A: Friday’s by noon.


Q: Are matches timed?

A: Not at this time.


Q: Can I intentionally draw with my opponent?

A: Intentional drawing is against the rules. Draw’s are determined by games going to time, or players not able to sync on schedules.


Q: When are match results due?

A: Reporting match results is your responsibility. Both players should discuss who is reporting and post immediately following their match. Match results are due Thursday evenings at 10pm EST.


Q: Can I Stream my match?

A: Yes. We love it! Just make sure you have stable internet.


Q: What if I do not want to be recorded during our match, or posted to Youtube or other streaming channels.

A: Both players must agree to Streaming before starting Stream. Simply ask your opponent if they are ok with it.


Q: I have a great idea for the WSOC. How do I share it?

A: Message Big Dice, or a Rules Committee member, or email Big Dice [email protected]


Q: I want to write articles and content for the WSOC website. How do I do that?

A: Contact Big Dice in Discord or [email protected] and provide a sample of the content you want to share.


Q: I want to do a deck tech video and post on WSOC streaming servers. How do I do that?

A: Contact Big Dice in Discord or [email protected]


Q: Can I invite my friends to WSOC Discord server?

A: Yes! We love it!


Q: I want to drop from the league. Who do I tell?

A: RC member or Big Dice. Once dropped you cannot be added again.
