July 2022

Format Rules

Banned Cards/Decks

1.  Match Rules

1.1 Round Robin; Players will receive an assigned player for each match each week.

1.2 Match location; Spelltable. All matches are to be played via Spelltable. Matches can be streamed as long as both players agree to streaming. See section 1.14-1.16 for Spelltable rules

1.3 Match Timeline; Assigned matches will be distributed every Friday prior to 12pm EST. You will have until the following Thursday to make contact with your assigned opponent and play your match. Match results must be turned in by 10pm on each Thursday. All players should make initial contact with their opponents for the week on the Friday when new pairings are posted. Schedules vary by player so communicating early is key. Since schedules vary, please respond in a timely manner (same day as message) to Discord Messages.

1.4 Match Format; Commander. These will be 1v1 and best two out of three. Games will not be timed. Players life totals start at 40.

1.5 Mulligans; First mulligan is free, draw seven with no penalty. Second mulligan utilizes London Mulligan. Draw 7, but put one card from your hand on the bottom of your library. Each time you mulligan you draw seven cards and put an additional card from your hand on the bottom of your library.

1.6 Turn Order; High dice roll chooses who plays and who draws. In 1v1 starting player does NOT draw. Spin-down dice should not be used to determine starting player, but is acceptable if both players agree.

1.7 Match Reporting; After match is complete report match win/loss count and player names on MTGMelee.com player controller. Must be posted prior to midnight every Thursday.

1.8 Rules Questions; There is a Scryfall bot in our Discord channel that can be used for oracle text. Additionally, the Gatherer has this data. We have created two channels specifically for rules questions. The channel rules-and-questions is for questions without a timing restriction. If you need immediate assistance, use channel SOS-judge.

1.9 Deck cutting; Both players must offer their deck for cutting. Players can signal where they want the player to cut their deck by using a card to slide up or down their deck.

1.10 Cheating; Intentional cheating of any kind will not be tolerated. If caught cheating, immediate forfeit of entire match and disqualification from entire tournament will take place. Additionally, players who are caught cheating will be banned from WSOC events for a period of 1 year. Further infractions will lead to permanent ban.

1.11 Unresponsive Opponent; If every attempt has been made to contact and meet your scheduled opponent without response through Discord, screen shot your conversation and attempts. Both parties will be contacted to verify. Unresponsive player will be awarded no-points, and the attempting players will be awarded the win. Cases must be confirmed by Rules Committee.

1.12 Scheduling Conflicts; If both players cannot meet to play their match due to scheduling conflicts, both players will be issued a draw.

1.13 Spelltable; All players will need access to Spelltable and a camera or phone to play their match online. Here is the link to Spelltable. You can find a complete guide to setting up Spelltable with a cell phone pinned to our Discord Lounge channel.

1.14 Viewing Area; All cards must remain in the viewing area for both players to see including Library’s, Graveyards, Exile, Commandzone, and hand. Hands should be tilted away from the camera. Hands should be placed faced down during opponents turn revealing how many cards they have in their hand.

1.15 Disconnects; If a player disconnects from the match, upon return they have to shuffle their hand into their library. They do not draw any new cards. This is to prevent cheating/deck/library stacking. Disconnecting for more than 5 minutes is considered forfeiting match. It is important to not start a match until you have a stable internet connection.

2.  Deck Construction

2.1 Preconstructed Deck; Players can utilize either a purchased preconstructed Commander deck, or if they have all the cards to build the base preconstructed deck list they can use their own cards. If building the deck, the list must match 100% the base precon (card set does not matter if building your own)

2.2 Contents; 99 cards in general card pool. No more than one of any card except basic lands. 1 Commander. If you have Partner Commanders, the your card pool is 98 cards. Companions allow up to 1 Companion card for 101 total. All decks using companion must meet criteria. Deck lists are REQUIRED to participate. Deck lists will NOT be made public until after the tournament has ended.

2.2 Commander; Players must use only Legendary commanders that come in the original pre-constructed deck. Using a commander purchased could provide an unfair advantage and therefore not permitted.

2.3 Sideboard; Cards you purchase make up your sideboard for the entire league. After game 1 of your match, you may sideboard any number of cards from your pool into your deck. Sideboards are NOT accessible during a game even if a card would let you.

2.4 Weekly Upgrades; Players can and should upgrade their deck each week. Week 1 all players play their deck as is, no upgrades. Upgrades start week 2. Each player will be allowed to upgrade their deck with $20 TCG Market Price value. Updated deck lists including sideboard cards are required to be submitted each week prior to new match taking place.

2.5 Lands; Only Basic Lands produced by Magic: The Gathering are legal. No altars or proxy lands as they may have a different thickness making them more identifiable when shuffling/cutting. Basic lands hold no value towards your weekly upgrade. This includes basic full art and basic foils. Snow lands and Wastes count towards your weekly $20 upgrade. Week 1 the deck must be played as is out of the box.

2.6 Special Packs; With the addition of special packs into some Pre-constructed decks, we have added the rule that no cards from special packs are legal week 1. Cards pulled from these packs can be added later as long as they meet the $20 upgrade requirement.

2.7 Deck Lists; Deck lists are REQUIRED to participate. Deck lists will NOT be made public until after the tournament has ended.

3.  Tournament Etiquette

3.1 Respect; Be respectful of your opponent and their values. No racial slurs, hate speech, yelling at, cursing at, or bullying. This will not be tolerated and will result in immediate disqualification from tournaments and potential banning from future events. If you observe this type of behavior, please try to create a recording and contact the tournament organizer.

3.2 Streaming; We encourage players to stream their games. Please note; the disconnecting rule still applies. Be mindful of your bandwidth. Additionally, please get the consent of your opponent that week prior to streaming.

3.3 Have Fun; Our community is built upon having fun. Keep it light, and do your best to help each other.
